Why we sing praises to god

There is nothing insufficient in God that he needs our worship. Rather, he wants it; he wants us. The command is an invitation. Perhaps this is what it means when we talk about the importance of where we place our affections. Lewis puts it in yet another way. It is widely evident that there is great disunity in our world, our nation, and in many churches. Disunity among Christians breaks the heart of God 1 Cor 1. Yet, it is through congregational singing together that brings unity of mind and heart to the church. We need congregational worship. People sing together in the strangest places. At sporting events, fans sing enthusiastically about their desire to crush the opponent.

Our singing tends to bind us together. Jesus does not redeem us for our ability to lead a tune. But he does redeem us for the purpose of our glorifying him through song, and demonstrating our unity in Christ by singing the same song. Thus, every Christian should be a singing Christian, and every voice in the congregation matters. You could even say that your voice is essential.
